Wireless and Cabling Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Wireless and Cabling Design Engineer to contribute to our ongoing success and growth. This individual will be responsible for providing engineering support for all pre-sales and delivery activities to include participating in surveys, design, implementation and verification activities.  This position typically supports multiple Company customers and projects, provides support to internal project teams and would be considered a lead on most projects. Travel up to 25% of the time is required for this role.

The Wireless and Cabling Design Engineer will support business management in the areas of department budgeting and financial analysis of engineering supported projects and will provide input and suggestions on business practices and efficiencies. The ability to maintain strong internal relationships with operations departments, sales/marketing department, as well as any other Company internal departments and the ability to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system, are essential skills for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Define technical expectations as to what would be required for the execution of Company products / services and assist in the development or refining of processes for client support, design and deliverables management
  • Assume responsibility for client site surveys, design documents, Bill of Material (BOM) creation and other engineering support as it relates to physical layer / structured cabling and wireless projects (including survey and design drawing preparation / updates, survey results review and summarization, basic wireless AP placement, cable remediation, circuit extension scope development, etc.)
  • Pre-sales support including customer presentations
  • Participate in site survey events
  • Project design service for sites and systems
  • Pilot engineering and support
  • Technical project escalation
  • Assist in developing and supporting the Company Quality Assurance program
  • Author technical specifications for projects including installation manuals
  • Travel to customer locations and participate in customer presentations / visits as required
  • Research and develop new service offerings to support or drive new business opportunities
  • Assist with updates and modifications via inputs for budget creation tool
  • Manage assigned projects to meet or beat the per site engineering budget through diligence in effort and change order management with the Project Management Office (PMO) team
  • Maintain internal and external relationships to include project related customer contacts, vendor partner contacts, client resources and internal operations and sales contacts
  • Perform tasks as requested by the Director of Engineering

Required Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent related experience
  • Industry certification such as RCDD, CWNA, BICSI or similar
  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience involving industry design and installation experience for physical layer and related systems
  • Minimum of 4 years performing predictive physical RF placement design, troubleshooting and verification of wireless networks with tools such as AirMagnet SurveyPro, Motorola LAN Planner, Ekahau Site Survey, etc.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience involving industry project costing and proposal writing
  • Experience related to IT deployment initiatives, remodel/construction, physical layer or other related field
  • Significant experience in designing wireless AP placement and understanding wireless networks
  • Broad understanding of technological (LAN/WAN) environments
  • Significant experience and understanding of Telephony as it relates to physical layer
  • Significant experience and understanding of paging system designs, troubleshooting and support
  • Significant experience with direct customer interface and support

Other required knowledge and skills
  • Systems Evaluation:  ability to identify measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance, relative to the goals of the system
  • Proficiency in AutoCad
  • Experience leading multi-day site walks and maintaining timeliness for those walks
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite Tools including intermediate to advanced Excel and Word skills
  • Intermediate to advanced Visio skills
  • Ability to manage one’s own time efficiently and effectively
  • Excellent verbal and written commutation skills including customer facing and interaction skills
  • Ability to work long hours when required and travel up to 25% of the time
  • Ability to track, troubleshoot, and problem solve
  • Commitment to process improvement and ability to offer solutions
  • Ability to focus on critical data details
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize according to customer demands

Desired
  • Previous experience and understanding of analog and IP cameras
  • Previous experience and understanding of small phone systems/key systems
  • Nationwide wireless deployment experience
  • Aerohive Wi-Fi planning tool experience
  • Aero-Hive Certification
  • AirMagnet Certification
  • Other Manufacturer’s Wireless Certification(s)
  • Any relevant certifications are a plus
